One Bead, One Breath
A mala is a strand for counting. One bead for each breath or each recitation, 108 to a round, and a guru bead to tell your thumb the round is done. The rest of the day it wraps at the wrist or goes over the head.

Every stone on this strand is a warm one. That is the whole design.
The orange beads are sunstone, and the glitter in them is metal. Sunstone forms with tiny platelets of copper and hematite suspended inside the quartz, and when light hits them they throw it back in a shower of tiny sparks. That is a real effect with a name, aventurescence, and it is why the stone got called sunstone in the first place. It is worn the way you would use a sunny morning: to start something, to get moving again, to feel less flat.
The pale yellow beads are citrine, the stone of appetite and nerve, kept by people who want to want things again. The lavender is amethyst, in its lightest grade here, which is the steadying note that keeps the warm stones from tipping into restless. And the brown that makes up most of the strand is tiger eye, the ballast: the heavy, ordinary stone that the bright ones are set against so they read as bright.
For the flat stretch of the year, or the flat stretch of a life. January, the third month of a long project, the period after something ended when nothing has started yet. This is a strand for getting the engine turning over again, and it is a good gift for somebody who has gone quiet and you do not know what to send.
It is long enough to wrap at the wrist, so most people wear it out rather than leaving it on the cushion.
Left hand, one bead per breath or per recitation, thumb drawing each bead toward you, and turn back at the clear quartz bead above the tassel. If you are only wearing it, none of that applies. Keep it out of long direct sun. Amethyst is one of the few stones that genuinely fades, and a sunny windowsill will pale it over a year.

Buddhism counts 108 afflictions, and a mala gives you one bead for each. The guru bead sits outside the count: when your thumb reaches it, the round is done.
Both. It is long enough to go over the head or wrap at the wrist. If you are only wearing it, none of the counting applies.
Yes. Every stone on the strand is genuine natural stone, never glass or resin. They are listed under Details on this page.
Close, but never identical. Natural stone varies in colour and marking from bead to bead, so no two strands match.
