Pixiu is not one animal. It is two.
貔貅 is written with two characters because it names a pair: 貔 is the male and 貅 is the female. They were a breeding couple in the old bestiaries before the two words fused into a single creature, and the split survives in the horns. One horn on the head is a 天祿, the one that brings fortune in. Two horns is a 辟邪, the one that drives bad luck out. Collectors still check the head first, because the horn count tells you which job the piece was carved to do. The one here has a single horn, so it is the fetching kind.
The beads are obsidian, which is not a stone that grew. It is lava that hit air or water and cooled too fast for any crystal to form, so it set as glass instead, in a matter of hours. That is where its reputation comes from: a material that hardened at the moment it was cooling is the one people keep for holding a line and not letting things through. On this bracelet that is the second half of the job. The creature fetches, and the stone is what the fetching gets kept behind.
Each bead carries a syllable of the six-syllable mantra, cut into the obsidian and filled with gold, so the band spells out the most repeated sentence in Tibetan Buddhism while the creature at the front gets on with collecting. Two matte gold beads sit either side of the pixiu and keep the two halves apart.
The pixiu and the spacer beads are stainless steel, which is the part that matters if you have worn a cheap gold charm before. Steel does not rust, does not tarnish and will not leave a green mark on your wrist in summer, which is the usual fate of plated brass on a bracelet you sweat in. The gold is a colour finish on the surface of the steel, so it keeps its tone through daily wear instead of going dull in a month.

That is the specific complaint this creature is meant to answer, and it is why the bracelet ends up on people who have just started earning properly, or gone self-employed, or had a year where nothing stuck. The convention is that the head points away from your body, out toward the room, on the reasoning that a charm facing its owner is not out working. Elastic strung, so roll it on instead of stretching it wide. The steel handles water and sweat without trouble. Obsidian is glass, so it chips on a hard edge; take it off before anything that involves knocking your wrist into things.

How do I find my size?
Open the Size Guide above the Add to cart button. Wrap a piece of string around your wrist, lay it flat and measure it, then match the number to S, M, L or XL. Between two sizes, take the larger one.

Yes. Every bead is cut from genuine natural stone, never dyed glass or resin.
Will mine look exactly like the photos?
Close, but never identical. Natural stone varies in colour and banding from bead to bead, which is how you know it is real.
