For most of history this blue cost more than gold, and there was only one place to get it.
Lapis lazuli came out of a single valley in Afghanistan and was traded across the entire ancient world from there. Ground down it became ultramarine, the pigment Renaissance painters reserved for the Virgin's robe because it was too expensive to use anywhere else. Tutankhamun's mask uses it. So do the murals in the Mogao caves (莫高窟).
In Tibetan Buddhism the Medicine Buddha (薬師佛) is depicted the colour of lapis, which is about the highest compliment a tradition can pay a stone.
Deliberately minimal here: a few beads and a lot of cord, so the blue has room around it. Look closely and you will find gold flecks of pyrite scattered through the stone, which is how lapis has always been recognised.
For anyone who buys stones for the history. Lapis has one of the longest trading stories of any stone on earth.
Lapis is relatively soft as stones go and doesn't like prolonged water, so take it off for swimming and long showers. The pyrite flecking varies bead to bead, which is the mark of the real material.
Blue is rare in Chinese jewellery, which is most of why this reads differently against anything else you wear.
Most rope bracelets close with a sliding knot. Pull the knots until it sits right, then leave it. It adjusts to fit most wrists.
Where a bracelet has a toggle or a fixed length, that is listed under Details.

Red is the protective colour: the colour talismans are written in and the colour tied onto a newborn. Tradition says you leave a cord on until it gives out by itself, then tie on the next one.

A cord is temporary by design. It softens and fades with wear and eventually gives out, which is the life it is meant to have. Tradition says you leave it on until then, and tie on the next one.
Yes. A plain cord is meant to stay on through sleep, showers and work, and water only softens and fades it sooner. Take it off for water if it carries stone beads or a plated charm.
The cord and any bead or charm are named under Details on this page.
