On the ridge of every old Chinese roof there is a dragon head with its mouth open, swallowing the beam.
Chiwen, and the job is fire. The head sits at each end of the main ridge with the jaw clamped over it, and the belief was that a creature belonging to water would keep the building from burning. Which is why it is always the head and never the whole animal. You do not need the body. The head is the part that watches, and the part that bites.
Worn at the front of the chest it is doing the same thing at a smaller scale.
Two castings, and they are not interchangeable. One is heavier through the jaw with the mane worked in broad planes. The other is finer, with more detail packed into the same space, and it reads as a smaller object even where it isn't. Take the heavier one if it is going over a shirt, because broad planes read better at a distance. Take the finer one if it sits against skin, where you actually see the detail.
For anyone who wants the guardian at the front of them, pointed outward, doing the looking so they don't have to.

How long is it, and where will it sit?
Every necklace lists its chain or cord length in the Specifications. As a guide, 45 cm sits on the collarbone and 60 cm on the upper chest. The Length Guide above the Add to cart button shows both.
Is the stone real?
When the Specifications say natural jadeite, jade, agate, chalcedony or obsidian, that is what it is. The exact material of every piece is named there, including the metal and any plating.
Will mine look exactly like the photos?
Close, but not identical. Natural stone differs in colour and marking from piece to piece, and hand carving varies a little too.
Can I wear it every day?
Yes. Stainless steel can be worn in water. Jade and other stone can stay on through the day, but take it off before sport or anything involving impact. Keep enamel and plated pieces away from water, perfume and abrasion.
