Chinese art always picks the same instant, and it is never the obvious one.
The story is that a carp swimming up the Yellow River leaps the Dragon Gate and becomes a dragon. But nobody paints the fish before the jump, and almost nobody paints the dragon afterwards. It is always the moment in the air: committed, out of the water, and not yet anything else. That is the part the tradition thinks is worth looking at.
Which is why this fish is arched rather than swimming, tail up, over an open lotus.
Students have invoked it before examinations for a thousand years, and it means promotion earned rather than luck arriving.
For somebody mid-way through something they cannot see the end of yet. The fish in the air does not know either.
The carp is worked in red fired enamel with the lotus in blue and green beneath it, and a carved jade bud hangs below the whole arrangement.

How long is it, and where will it sit?
Every necklace lists its chain or cord length in the Specifications. As a guide, 45 cm sits on the collarbone and 60 cm on the upper chest. The Length Guide above the Add to cart button shows both.
Is the stone real?
When the Specifications say natural jadeite, jade, agate, chalcedony or obsidian, that is what it is. The exact material of every piece is named there, including the metal and any plating.
Will mine look exactly like the photos?
Close, but not identical. Natural stone differs in colour and marking from piece to piece, and hand carving varies a little too.
Can I wear it every day?
Yes. Stainless steel can be worn in water. Jade and other stone can stay on through the day, but take it off before sport or anything involving impact. Keep enamel and plated pieces away from water, perfume and abrasion.
What if I do not like it?
