Chinese Garnet Vitality Bracelet

Garnet is named after the pomegranate, and not loosely. The Latin is granatum, meaning seeded. The Chinese is 石榴石, pomegranate stone. Two traditions, working separately, reached for the same fruit, because that is exactly what a garnet bead looks like once the light gets into it.

Garnet is the stone kept for vitality, and it is worth being precise about what that means. Most stones people wear are there to settle them down: to quiet the head, to take the edge off, to keep something out. Garnet is the opposite one.
